SACRAMENTO – State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson will recognize the Sacramento City Unified School District’s pioneering Safe Haven campaign during a town hall at Oak Ridge Elementary School on Wednesday April 5, 2017 at 9:45 a.m.
In December 2016, Â鶹¹ÙÍø was among the first districts in California to designate its schools and facilities as safe from Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) deportation actions. In March, the district launched an unprecedented campaign to educate undocumented students and their families about their rights if confronted by ICE agents and redoubled efforts to ensure all students at every school feel welcomed and protected. Sac City is distributing to schools thousands of Know Your Rights cards as well as welcome banners and lawn signs and working with local organizations to help sponsor Know Your Rights forums at district facilities. In addition, Â鶹¹ÙÍø is asking students, employees and community members to pledge their support for the Safe Haven campaign.
