At the October 3 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board, the Board recognized the following Stellar Students who participate in the Engineering, Construction, & Design Academy (ECD) at Rosemont High School: 

ECD Seniors:

  • Ellona Ivanina – Is dedicated, smart, hardworking, helps others, and consistently strives to improve the school and her community as a whole. 
  • Gyamie Statham – There is not a bit of knowledge that Gyamie isn’t hungry for, he researches independently and always pushes his knowledge and skills to be the best version of himself. 
  • Ronin Miller – is consistently excellent and is always looking for the chance to work on a special project and to help others.
  • Nelson Bui – A very self-motivated student who is great at collaboration. He is currently teaching himself architectural design software to create professional-grade documents. 
  • Zackary Abersold – A supremely self-motivated student; if he needs to build something or needs a new skill to do so, he will quickly find the right way to get things done.  

ECD Juniors: 

  • Elijah Debusk – A student who takes on extra projects to build supplies for programs like ASB and Key Club and is a huge help to teachers. 
  • Logan Antrim – Consistently finishes his work early and enjoys lending a helping hand to his peers so the class can learn together. 
  • Michael Wyatt – Always asks questions to improve his job-related skills and applies what he has learned. 
  • Sioana Palu – An incredibly hard worker who asks thoughtful questions, takes detailed notes, and continually looks for more challenges. 
  • Breajanae Clay – Has learned design software on her own time to explore her interest in architecture. 
  • Isabella Ragan – She excels in both of her ECD classes, encourages collaboration and values her peer’s ideas 

The Board took action to approve the following Resolutions: 

  • A resolution recognizing the week of October 13-19, 2024, as the Week of the School Administrators to celebrate the contributions of school administrators who support Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s students, staff and community, helping to advance all students’ success.
  • A resolution recognizing October 14-18 as National School Lunch Week to promote healthy eating in schools, the importance of healthy school meals for students, and appreciate the efforts of school nutrition professionals who work diligently to provide balanced meals. Access to healthy school meals fosters lifelong healthy eating habits, combats childhood obesity, and contributes to improved concentration, better attendance, and enhanced learning outcomes for students.
     
  • A resolution expressing the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Board’s support for Proposition 2, the Kindergarten Through Grade 12 Schools and Local Community College Public Education Facilities Modernization, Repair, and Safety Bond Act of 2024, which will be on the November ballot. If approved, Proposition 2 will authorize a $10 billion state General Obligation bond for facilities at K-12 schools and community colleges. 

The Board received informational updates on the following topics:

  • Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month which is celebrated from September 15 to October 15. This observance recognizes the contributions, culture, and history of individuals with Latin American and Hispanic heritage. The update included presentations by several students participating in Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s Spanish Dual Language Immersion program and Spanish Transitional Bilingual Program.

  • The Early Literacy Block (ELSB) Grant Program, a state grant program designed to help LEAs develop and implement effective early literacy instruction and programs. In Â鶹¹ÙÍø, AM Winn, Ethel I. Baker, John D. Sloat, and John H. Still elementary schools received the grant, impacting literacy instruction for 289 students in transitional kindergarten through third grade.
     
  • The California Industrial & Technology Education Association (CITEA) awarded a grant to Miwok Middle School Career Technical Education (CTE) teacher Kyle Heckey in recognition for his outstanding teaching. The CITEA grant will provide $5000.00 worth of equipment to Mr. Heckey’s CTE classroom. CITEA also named Mr. Heckey as their middle school CTE teacher of the year.  Congratulations to Mr. Heckey!

The Board held two Public Hearings and subsequently took action to approved two school construction-related items: 

  • A resolution which conveys easement entitlements to Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) for a utility easement at Edward Kemble and Cesar Chavez Elementary Schools as part of the new construction at those sites. 
     
  • Â鶹¹ÙÍø’s participation in a contract to design and install LED lighting at various district schools in the District will conserve energy and reduce the District’s energy costs.  

The Board also received an informational update on proposed changes to the District’s Civic Permit Policy, Facility Use Handbook, and civic permit fees.
